How it all began

A School Band

youngbeatles
The Beatles began as John Lennon's school band, The Quarrymen. John met Paul McCartney when The Quarrymen played a summer fete in 1957.

The Silver Beetles

A few months later McCartney met the younger George Harrison on a bus.

John then asked his best friend from art school, Stuart Sutcliffe to play bass.

Hamburg

In 1960 the band went to Hamburg, before returning to Liverpool to play at The Cavern.

Ringo

Pete Best was The Beatles drummer until August 1962. But at their first Abbey Road recording session producer George Martin was unhappy with Best’s drumming. Soon after Best was sacked and Ringo Starr joined the group.

Ironically, Martin didn’t much like Ringo’s drumming, either.
